Best Travel Purse & What to Carry
The best travel purse is small, secure, and efficiently packed. Many tourist sites are limiting bag sizes for security reasons, so gone are the days of carrying a large bag or backpack on my day outings while traveling.
The best travel purse is compact and can be worn cross body. This not only avoids bag size restrictions, but helps me protect from pickpockets by keeping the bag on my front and tucked in close.
The best travel purse, the Sherpani Crossbody, has an adjustable strap, 2 inside zipper pockets and a surprising amount of space in a compact size. It also has a small zipper pocket on the outside in which I store one credit card and a small amount of cash. I keep this zipper pocket side against my body which allows me to easily access a form of payment while on the go, without pulling my larger wallet out.
I used to go out for my touring days with a backpack filled with all sorts of ‘just in case’ items but I’ve had to reform my big bag ways.
However, that doesn’t mean giving up bringing items that help me feel prepared for the unknown. I still carry a few ‘just in case’ items that would make MacGyver proud.
Best Travel Purse Contents for Efficiency
I carry with me:
- Wallet
- List of travel companions and emergency contacts
- Sunglasses
- Zip ties
- Travel size pill case
- Hand sanitizer
- Lip balm
- Phone
- Battery pack
- Alcohol wipes
- Band-Aids
- Safety pins
- Air tag
- Lens cleaner
- Hair tie
- Emory board
- Protein bar
- Gatorade packet
- Sunscreen
- Small carabiner
- Headphones
As you can see from the second photo, there is still additional room to spare. This best travel purse has multiple connection points where I can also attach items to the outside, such as a personal safety alarm or keys.
Zip Ties are the New Duct Tape
I personally think that zip ties are the new duct tape. My most epic save to date was using a zip tie to repair a broken flip flop at Disney World. I also keep a small carabiner with me. It came in handy when I found myself the lucky winner of an X-Large Pikachu plush at Legoland. Pikachu rode on my back, secured to my purse strap by the carabiner, leaving my hands free.
When traveling internationally, I follow this best travel purse setup and I also wear a waist belt with RFID protection to store my passport and a portion of the money I am traveling with. As always, I hope you find these tips helpful. If you have a ‘zip tie saves the day’ story, I’d love to hear about it!
Adventure on!

Very pretty purse which seems like a ton of space. For traveling though I prefer purses that have more compartments. Great you keep all the essentials in there
