NYC is a whirlwind of amazing food options but there are the classic three must haves for all visitors: pizza, a street dog, and a bagel. These are not your average same three you can get at home!
Pizza
Who has the best pizza in NYC is a classic debate so we tried a bunch! Here is our favorite:
John’s of Time Square
johnspizzerianyc.com located at 260 W 44th St, New York, NY 10036
Thin crust pizza that is amazing! The location is a former church so you get to eat this superb pizza under a beautiful stain glass window. Be sure to ask for the back room if you want to be seated under the window. There are a few tables in a front room as well. All pizzas are made to order, and take approximately 15-25 minutes to make.
Low Mobility Note: The main dining room in the back is on ground level with no steps (ramp down) and this is also where the bathrooms (small, standard) are located. The smaller, front room is up one step. There is a second floor which is accessed via a full set of stairs but there are a large number of tables on ground level. Nana, with her walker, had no problem moving about this restaurant.
Tip: John’s of Time Square is not the same as John’s of Bleecker Street :>
Bagel
Broad Nosh Bagels
https://broadnosh.com/ Two locations at 314 West 58th or 86th & Broadway
This recommendation came from our bellman and I counted 5 closer bagel or pastry shops on my way so I knew it was going to be good! Although you miss the opportunity to see all the bagels in person before you choose, I found all or most of the varieties available for online order for pickup. I was able to skip the long line and pickup my bagels fresh just after the order was completed.
There is seating but on any prime time morning, the line will be long and the stores extremely crowded which is why I recommend take away for a more relaxing noshing experience. I left the family chilling back at the hotel while I ran out for the quick pickup and we all still enjoyed the quintessential NY bagel.
Hot Dog
We have to get a street dog every trip. They just don’t taste the same at home! We hit up Nathan’s Famous food cart for quick lunch and they really are the best.
You can get your hot dog with a side of fries and a drink for $9-$12.
On our one week adventure in New York City, we had lots of fantastic food in addition to the New York City foods classic three. Check out more NYC food recommendations here for amazing soup dumplings, burgers, breakfasts and signing waitstaff!
Adventure on!
